Brides – How to Stay Sane On Your Big Day!By stacey | June 26, 2018
The big day has finally arrived… and you’re preparing to walk down the altar to marry the love of your life. It’s a dream come true, right?
Then how do you explain those BUTTERFLIES in the pit of your stomach? The fear that everything might not go as planned?
No matter how excited you are to say “I do” to your partner, the truth is that sometimes the big day jitters can get the best of even the most well-prepared bride-to-be.
Juggling all of the preparations – and not to mention, all of the people involved – can cause us to get wrapped up in the illusion of perfection. What should be a blissful time in your life can turn into feeling like one of the most stressful times!
Don’t get wrapped up in the chaos – it’s imperative to ENJOY what is sure to be one of the best days in your life, as well as the weeks leading up to it.
Take it from us – here are our tips to stay stress-free on your big day:
Prepare in Advance
This one might go without saying, but plan ahead! Typically, we suggest about a 12-month planning period prior to the big day, but the ideal timeline is really unique to each couple. Some weddings take as little as 3 months to plan, while others are years in the making.
The key is to give yourself enough time – whatever that might be for you personally – and to get as much done ahead of time as possible.
However, no matter how much you prepare in advance, you’ll still have some items on your list a couple of days before – like confirming arrival times with your vendors and bridal parties.

Share the Load
One thing that we often hear from stressed-out brides? They feel like all of the decision-making, planning, and preparation falls squarely on their shoulders. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way. If you’re not someone who finds decision-making to be easy, ask your partner, family, friends, or even a trusted vendor for their honest opinions.
If it falls within your budget, an experienced wedding planner will help you make sure everything is organized and accounted for. Another helpful idea, is hiring a day-of coordinator to ensure that all of the details are taken care of. Don’t hesitate to delegate tasks to your wedding party, either – they are there to support you on your big day!
Keep A Wedding Day Timeline
While it might be tempting to plan a morning full of manicures, pedicures, hair, makeup, AND a big brunch on the big day, try to keep it simple!
The absolute necessities will be hair and makeup (and it’s worth noting that both always seem to take more time than anticipated).
When it comes to your dress, you’ll want to ensure that someone with experience is on hand to help you get into your dress – don’t just rely on a safety pin and a prayer! Have someone accompany you to your fittings who can also help you wriggle into the dress on the big day.
Plus, many well-meaning guests and your bridal party will want to see you before you walk down the aisle – try to keep these visits to a minimum, and stay off of social media.
While they may seem simple, these tips will give you the time and space you need to be present and joyful in the moment.
Don’t Forget to Eat!
If you’re anything like us, this might be the only day of your entire life this happens, but you might forget to eat.
While your guests are indulging on your carefully selected hors d’oeuvres, chances are that eating has fallen to the wayside in the midsts of the excitement. Keep the “hangries” and pre-ceremony butterflies at bay by ensuring that everyone has light snacks and refreshments and enough time to eat a small meal or two throughout the festivities. And no, it doesn’t need to be an elaborate sit-down kind of thing – in fact, many vendors will prefer a quiet moment to have a quick snack alone, away from the hustle and bustle as a way to recharge.
For the bride, we suggest a couple of balanced meals – like half a turkey sandwich with a side of fruit, or two hard-boiled eggs with a spoonful of peanut butter.
Pssst – a small glass of bubbly can help, too!
Have a Backup Plan
Zippers can break, flower girls might cry, and it could rain – but if one thing goes wrong, it doesn’t mean that the entire day needs to fall apart.
A well-organized wedding will sustain itself even if one thing doesn’t go according to plan.
Prior to your big day, prioritize the most important aspects of the big day, and plan your back-up scenario in case something goes awry. If your wedding is outdoors and it rains, do you have adequate cover for your guests? And if your hairstylist is a no-show, can your cousin Louise pull together a chignon in 15 minutes? Have a plan.
Chances are, you won’t have to implement any of these back-ups, but it can provide ease-of-mind when you know there’s always a solution to every (important) problem.
There you have it – our top 5 tips to ensure the most significant event of your life unfolds like clockwork! While these are very important lessons we’ve learned along the way, we encourage you to remember one very important thing – why you’re doing all of this – to marry the love of your life!
As Stacey’s aunt Brooke wisely told her on her wedding day, “Enjoy every minute… even the stressful ones, because it’s going to be all over quickly.”
With that said, hire vendors you trust, lean on us as much as possible for help (did we mention we LOVE being part of the planning process?) and keep your eye on the prize – and you’ll be certain to have beautiful wedding memories to last an eternity.
